Tutorials & referenceFamicom Disk System
The original setup combines a Famicom, disk drive and RAM Adapter. Identify each piece before diagnosing a loading problem, and establish that the base console works with a known cartridge. Physical disk service, disk-image loading and save preservation are related projects with different tests and failure modes.
Start with unmodified disk reads and a record of side order. Preserve existing saved data before writing a disk or changing hardware. A belt replacement is a mechanical repair; spindle alignment and read calibration need the matching illustrated procedure rather than an adjustment guessed from an error code.

The two original repair articles remain in the NES collection. Match their stated hardware and symptoms before following component-level work.
Preservation and homebrew
Document the image format and tool; a convenient disk file does not necessarily preserve flux or every physical protection detail. Keep bootable FDS projects distinct from ordinary cartridge ROMs and retain the actual build source.
