The ElCheapoSD is a flash cart for the Atari Lynx. It uses an SD card and is compatible with all retail games as well as all homebrew games that are 512KB or smaller.

Setup

  1. Format an SD card as FAT32, preferably with the largest possible cluster size. If you plan on using multiple SD cards, name the volume so that the ElCheapoSD is able to tell by name if you swap SD cards.
  2. Download the ElCheapoSD firmware and copy the CONFIG.BIN to the root of the SD card, as well as the empty SAVES folder.
  3. Choose either the official or replacement BOOT.BIN file to the root directory:
  4. Add your .LNX, .LYX, or .0 ROM files to the SD card. Folders and subfolders are supported, and you can have up to 256 games within a folder.
  5. Power on the console with the SD card inserted and play.
Exclamation-triangle-fill.svgUpon first boot (or upon adding a new firmware file), you may see a "INSERT GAME" screen for a few seconds as it applies the firmware update. Do not power off the console if you see this message.

Troubleshooting

  • Stuck on white screen
    • Occasionally, your Lynx may get stuck on a white screen at boot. Allow it to sit for 30+ seconds and it should eventually boot to the ElCheapo menu.
