AES and MVS

Both the AES and MVS output effectively the same video signals, as they are based on the same hardware. Some revisions are worse, usually later ones, which have more noise and worse colors than earlier revisions due to cost cutting.

All games are output at 320x224 progressive resolution. Some games letterbox internally, such as Metal Slug, which outputs at 304x224 to prevent ghosting on consumer CRTs at the time. The dev team has said that some Sony Trinitron sets ghost the first and last 8 pixels, which they letterboxed to prevent.

AES

All AES consoles output RGB and composite by default. This is provided over the AV multi out, which is a standard 8-pin 270 degree DIN connector. The pinout is identical to the model 1 Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, but the different pin arrangement does not allow RGB cables from that console to fit. In addition, RGB output from the AES only requires a simple pass-through cable with no extra components, whereas model 1 Genesis RGB cables have output capacitors and series 75 ohm resistors inside.

MVS

All MVS arcade boards output RGB over the MVS connector (similar to JAMMA). This is intended to be output to an arcade monitor chassis and is not meant for connection to a standard RGB monitor or upscaler.
