A failed modified boot can originate in power, storage, package layout or an internal change. Establish which part fails before resetting or reflashing the console. Keep the last known-good USB contents and original kernel backups available during diagnosis.
Power and indicators
Sony's manual specifies a compatible USB Type-A power source supporting the stated 5 V, 1 A arrangement and identifies standby, operating and overheating indicators. Start with appropriate known-good equipment. A television USB port or arbitrary phone adapter should not be treated as guaranteed compatible solely because it powers another device.
If an overheating indication appears, follow Sony's instruction to disconnect the adapter and allow the console to cool in a ventilated location. Do not interpret that indicator as a request to install another firmware. Record the environment and whether the fault occurs in stock use or only with an accessory.
Reduce the setup
- Disconnect unnecessary storage, hubs and adapters.
- Test stock boot with a direct HDMI path and original controller.
- Test a known-good modest USB device prepared for the installed project.
- Add the hub, OTG cable or additional controller separately.
- Repeat the same application and save operation after each change.
- Keep the first failing combination and its exact component models in the report.
A drive that works on a computer may require a power or filesystem arrangement that the console setup does not provide. Compare capacity, format and package structure rather than replacing the launcher at random.
Controller compatibility
Test menu navigation and in-game controls separately. An adapter recognized by a kernel can still need emulator mappings, and an analog-capable device does not make every game use analog input. Save a known-good mapping before experimenting with another controller.
Record the adapter firmware, controller model and selected emulator. Where multiple players are involved, confirm assignment and all required buttons. Do not infer that a controller from another PlayStation generation is supported simply because it can be connected through USB.
OTG and kernel state
The AutoBleem-NG optional kernel documentation lists OTG and additional filesystem features and requires an appropriate starting state. These are documented modifications rather than universal stock capabilities. Preserve the original backup and read the selected project's uninstall or restore instructions before changing projects.
Using a different USB launcher is not the same as restoring an internal kernel. Never substitute a backup from an unknown console or a vaguely named binary when the project requires the device's own original data. Follow the exact revision's procedure and keep power stable throughout a documented write.
Recovery decision record
Write down what was changed, which installer or package was used, whether stock boot still works and which backups exist. A startup failure after reorganizing a USB directory should first be compared with the untouched prior copy. An internal change needs its own supported recovery workflow.
ModMyClassic now points to archived Eris instructions and states that development is paused. Check the current project status and official archive links instead of following a broken old path. Use save preservation before a migration and project selection when preparing a fresh setup.
