  1. Remove any disc from inside the console.
  2. Flip the PlayStation over and remove the 6x Philips screws from the bottom.

  3. Flip the PlayStation back upright and lift the top shell off.

  4. Remove the laser assembly ribbon cable and power cable.

  5. Lift the laser assembly straight up out of the console and set it aside.

  6. Remove the controller board ribbon cable.

  7. Remove the screw from the controller board.

  8. Remove the controller board from the shell.

  9. Remove the two screws from the power supply near the power connector.

  10. Unplug the power supply cable and remove the power supply.

  11. Remove the four screws from the metal shielding and lift it straight up and out of the console and set it aside.

  12. Remove the two screws from the mainboard.

  13. Lift the mainboard out of the shell and set aside.

Reassembly

  1. Place the motherboard into the bottom shell and screw in the two screws.

  2. Place the metal shielding onto the motherboard and insert four screws.

  3. Place the power supply into the shell and insert the two screws near the power jack.

  4. Insert the power cable into the power supply.

  5. Place the controller board in the shell and insert the screw.

  6. Connect the controller board ribbon cable.

  7. Place the laser assembly onto the three posts on the motherboard.

  8. Plug in the wire attached to the laser assembly.
  9. Plug in the white ribbon cable.

  10. Place the top shell over the motherboard.
