Hakchi is a tool that allows you to add game backups and emulators to your NES/SNES/Sega Mini consoles. This guide will walk you through how to use it.
Requirements
- A NES/SNES/Sega Mini console.
- A data capable USB-A to Micro-USB cable to connect your mini console to your PC.
- A PC running Windows, Linux and MacOS currently do not work for this tool.
Installing Hakchi
Installing the Hakchi App
- Get the latest release from here (GitHub). For this guide, we will use the "Installer" version.
- Open your downloads folder, find your installer executable file and double click it.
- It’ll ask you to specify components to install. Choose the release build. As for shortcuts, they are completely optional.
- Then choose a destination to install it to. This is completely optional as to where you’ll install it.
Installing Hakchi on your Console
- Connect your console to your PC using the micro-USB port on the back.
- On the Hakchi app, in the top-left corner choose Kernel then Install/Repair kernel. Follow the instructions on the screen as those are console specific.
- If you correctly did all the steps, The Hakchi app will show a message box saying “Installing kernel...”, then another box saying “Waiting for the Mini to reboot”, and it will repeat.
- If it says “Taking too long to reboot”, try rebooting your PC and disconnecting all wi-fi connections.
- The app should show a message box saying ”Done! You can upload games to your Mini now”. At this point, the installation process is finished.
Adding games
Original games
- With Hakchi opened and your Mini connected, go to the bottom left corner and press "Add Games".
- A file explorer should open. Navigate to your games folder and select your legally acquired ROM and press select.
- If you wish to add more than one ROM per transfer, hold shift while you click on the second game or individual games by holding CTRL while clicking on each game after the first.
- Your new games should appear on the games list on the top as new apps. You can choose to directly synchronize games.
