Massive PS5 Jailbreak "Relapse" Released: Unlocks Firmware 7.00 to 13.60 (Including PS5 Pro)

New "Relapse" Jailbreak Unlocks Almost Every PS5 Model

If you have held off on updating your PlayStation 5 recently, you might be in luck. A powerful new PS5 jailbreak named Relapse has just been released, and it is compatible with firmware versions ranging from 7.00 through 13.60.

Because this exploit covers such a wide range of firmware, nearly every standard PS5 and PS5 Pro console is now exploitable—provided you haven't downloaded a system update within the last week.

Why This Matters for Marvel's Wolverine

The timing of the Relapse release is especially notable for fans of Marvel's Wolverine. The base game requires firmware version 13.40 to run, while the 1.001.005 patch requires firmware 13.60. Because a console on 13.60 remains exploitable, gamers can run the jailbreak while still playing this major recent release and some of its updates. Keep in mind, however, that the absolute newest downloads from the PlayStation Network (PSN) may push the requirement to firmware 14.00.

It is incredibly rare for a jailbreak to support titles this recent, making Relapse a major point of interest for security researchers and PC emulation developers.

How the Relapse PS5 Exploit Works

According to the project's official GitHub repository, Relapse utilizes a two-part attack:

  1. Browser Exploit: Gains initial entry.
  2. Kernel Exploit: Secures full read-write access over the system's core memory.

Once the system is unlocked, it can load various custom payloads, such as etaHEN, via a loader listening on port 9021.

How to Use the Exploit

Getting started requires a quick network adjustment:

  1. Navigate to your PS5 network settings and change your Primary DNS to 45.56.67.85.
  2. From there, you can either run the project's serve.py script on a local PC or navigate directly to the Relapse Exploit website (https://github.com/ntfargo/Relapse-Exploit/) via the PS5's built-in web viewer.

The Pros and Cons of Jailbreaking Your PS5

Jailbreaking strips away Sony's system restrictions, opening the door for homebrew applications, emulators, custom mods, and unofficial software.

However, there is a significant trade-off: firmware dependence. If you update your console, you will permanently lose access to the jailbreak. Conversely, if you choose to stay on older firmware to keep your jailbreak, you will be locked out of the PlayStation Network, online multiplayer features, and future game releases or patches that require newer firmware.

If you want to explore the homebrew scene, your best bet is to pause all system updates until you decide which experience you value more.
