After 18 years, the classic Xbox 360 exclusive Ninja Gaiden 2 is finally fully playable natively on PC, completely bypassing the need for an emulator. Released by GitHub user “TheSaltTrader,” this unofficial port breathes new life into the beloved 2008 action game by introducing a host of modern PC-centric features.
Titled Ninja’s Dawn, the project is a static recompilation that translates the original Xbox 360 engine into native x86-64 code, allowing it to run smoothly as a standard Windows 10 or 11 executable. The port is built to meet modern gaming standards, targeting a baseline 60 FPS while supporting unlocked frame rates up to 144 FPS, V-Sync, full-screen toggles, and custom monitor selection. It also boasts true ultrawide 3D support, successfully expanding the field of view without artificially stretching the image.
Beyond performance upgrades, Ninja’s Dawn is packed with robust graphical enhancements. Players can utilize up to 8x internal supersampling, anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing, and FidelityFX CAS. The port also introduces a dynamic texture pack system that allows users to swap out textures on the fly. You can dump the original game files and upscale them using built-in support for Lanczos or AI-driven Real-ESRGAN upscaling.
Rounding out the definitive PC experience, the port includes full keyboard support, the ability to import original Xbox 360 save files, DLC compatibility, and a dedicated in-game settings menu. Hardware enthusiasts can also take advantage of built-in performance overlays to track FPS, CPU, RAM, GPU, and VRAM usage in real-time.
As with all fan-made recompilation projects, Ninja's Dawn does not include any copyrighted game assets. To play, users must provide their own obtained Xbox 360 ISO file of Ninja Gaiden 2.
