PC-9801 and PC-9821 gaming, model and sound-board compatibility, floppy and hard-disk preservation, disk images and reproducible emulation.
A computer family with specific requirements
PC-98 means NEC's PC-9801 and PC-9821 computer family. It is separate from the PC-FX console and from generic IBM-compatible PC instructions. Identify the exact machine, processor, memory and sound hardware before evaluating software. A familiar DOS filename or x86 processor does not establish identical disk, keyboard, display or expansion behavior.
For a real machine, retain setup disks and configuration files with the hardware inventory. Test a known compatible boot environment before changing drivers or replacing storage. Sound-board requirements deserve their own check: a game reaching its opening screen without music is a partial result rather than complete compatibility.
Disk preservation and reproducible emulation
Begin with the physical media record and a suitable read method. Keep untouched outputs and use separate copies for conversion. Multi-disk software needs its order and swap procedure preserved. A file conversion does not recreate unread sectors, and a checksum identifies a file without proving every original feature was captured.
The emulation guide builds a documented Neko Project II Kai baseline, including firmware or font resources, machine options and mounted media. Retain the implementation version because similarly named ports can expose different behavior. Test later loading stages and ordinary save restoration before declaring a preserved image usable.
Useful contributions
Specify the exact computer or emulated configuration, game edition, sound board and reproducible symptom. Link the original tool's supported formats and record the transformation chain for images. Do not treat every PC-98 disk as interchangeable or supply an unverified replacement power arrangement because another NEC machine looks similar.
Use this directory
Choose a guide by the work you intend to do, then record the hardware model, installed software and existing condition. Preserve data before a reset, storage change or firmware write. Each guide links primary documentation and separates documented requirements from editorial checklists. Keep a known-good baseline, change one variable at a time and verify a restore where saved progress matters. When contributing, include the exact tested configuration and source revision so another reader can reproduce the result and understand its limits.
