Ouya preservation and community API revival, ADB and application backups, controller mapping, USB storage and careful recovery planning.

Local preservation and service revival

Ouya's original commercial services ended in 2019. The community stouyapi implementation provides a documented replacement API route, with different instructions for configured consoles and units still in factory-reset setup. Start by recording which state you have. Preserve a working installation before resetting it, because reset can introduce an old connectivity dependency.

The replacement service describes itself as a static dummy service rather than a normal restored account database. Successful Discover access does not establish that every historical purchase, leaderboard or independent game server has been restored. Test each application's local and online features separately.

Prepare files and tools

The ADB guide uses Google's original documentation to create an application inventory and copy files the environment can actually read. An APK is not a guarantee of private saves or settings. Preserve application-supported exports and accessible storage, and retain errors that identify data which could not be copied.

Check USB data cables rather than assuming a charging cable supplies the required connection. Record development-tool versions and the old console software requirements. A current Android application or modern ADB feature can be unsupported on a historical device even when a similar procedure works on a new phone.

Troubleshoot one path at a time

Start with known-good power, direct HDMI and one controller. Add storage and adapters separately and repeat the same local test. Controller pairing does not establish correct mapping in every application, and a filesystem mounted by a PC is not automatically supported by the console setup. Keep temporary router changes limited to the documented revival procedure and restore the original network settings afterward.

Use this directory

Choose a guide by the work you intend to do, then record the hardware model, installed software and existing condition. Preserve data before a reset, storage change or firmware write. Each guide links primary documentation and separates documented requirements from editorial checklists. Keep a known-good baseline, change one variable at a time and verify a restore where saved progress matters. When contributing, include the exact tested configuration and source revision so another reader can reproduce the result and understand its limits.
