Establish the original fault and goal
Record whether the problem is lens damage, missing lines, poor visibility, unstable power or an unrelated input failure. Test a known cartridge and verified power source before disassembly. Replacing a display does not diagnose a dirty power switch or damaged cartridge slot. Decide whether the aim is restoration, improved illumination or a complete replacement platform; these produce different hardware outcomes.
Use the original Nintendo booklet as the ordinary-operation reference. Keep original-panel observations separate from a fitted kit's behavior. A modified console may have new brightness controls, menus or wiring that the stock instructions do not describe.
Match the complete display assembly
FunnyPlaying's own GBC kit documentation identifies the offered display assembly. Match the exact kit revision to its lens, shell and installation instructions. “IPS for GBC” is not enough information to establish panel dimensions, connector routing or whether case trimming is needed. Do not assume a tutorial for an older nonlaminated panel applies to a later laminated assembly.
| Verify | Reason |
|---|---|
| Kit and board revision | Installation routes and controls can change. |
| Shell and lens support | Window size and mounting differ. |
| Ribbon orientation | Incorrect seating can damage a connector or prevent boot. |
| Insulation and wire route | Closing the shell must not pinch or short connections. |
| Power requirements | Display and rechargeable modifications need a coherent supply plan. |
Treat rechargeable power as a separate conversion
Use a manufacturer-documented charger, cell and protection arrangement that matches the console and chosen modifications. A USB socket does not prove a board manages charging safely. Do not place a lithium cell into the original AA path or assume every charging board supports playing while charging. Verify those capabilities from the specific product documentation before use.
Retain the original battery cover and contacts when practical. Document permanent shell cuts and removed parts. Inspect any swollen, damaged or undocumented pack before installation. A battery-runtime claim should name the cell, brightness, cartridge and workload used for the measurement rather than promise one duration for every modified machine.
Fit and verify in controlled stages
Remove all power, organize fasteners and photograph the initial assembly. Read the entire procedure before cutting or soldering. Follow the kit's safe testing stage before final assembly. Check image alignment, controls, sound and restart behavior. Close the shell without force and repeat the test, including ordinary handling to reveal trapped leads.
Keep removed panels, brackets and the exact kit instructions with a maintenance record. Existing IPS installation information and charging-mod information are linked separately so their revision requirements remain visible. Preserve valuable cartridge saves before unrelated work using the backup guide.
