Tutorials & referenceGame Boy Color
Start with an identified original CGB console and a repeatable power, display and cartridge test. Choose a project from the symptom or feature you need, then preserve cartridge progress and the original hardware record before changing parts. Modern replacement mainboards and screen kits need their own instructions; a familiar shell does not identify the electronics inside.
This directory connects the dedicated Color guides with relevant articles already preserved in the broader Game Boy collection. Those articles keep their existing locations and histories. Their applicability still depends on the actual model, board and kit revision.

Saves and software

- Existing cartridge backup methods
- Game battery replacement
- Homebrew games and applications
Keep ROM, native save and clock information separate. Test a restore with expendable progress before treating an export as a verified backup.
Original and project documentation
Use the manufacturer's document for the installed accessory and record its version with the console. A guide for an older kit may not describe a later revision's mounting, charging or controls.
