SharpEmu PS5 Emulator Reaches New Milestones in v0.0.4 Release 2
The development team behind SharpEmu, a prominent PlayStation 5 emulator, has launched v0.0.4 release.2. This experimental update marks a notable achievement for the project: the software can now successfully boot 12 titles, with six of them running at a smooth 60 frames per second (FPS).
The games currently achieving this performance include Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, Tetris Forever, Hoa, Dreaming Sarah, Terrarium, and New Joe & Mac – Caveman Ninja. While these are relatively lightweight titles and may still encounter late-stage crashes during full playthroughs, sustaining 60 FPS is a significant developmental step forward.
Although SharpEmu is making steady progress, it currently remains behind the leading PS5 emulator, KyTyPS5. The competitive landscape, however, continues to push both development teams to refine their respective projects. Players should temper expectations and not expect to run demanding AAA games like Demon's Souls Remake at 60 FPS on SharpEmu anytime soon, as KyTyPS5 is poised to reach those high-fidelity milestones first.
Under the hood, version 0.0.4 release.2 introduces a variety of technical enhancements designed to improve long-term hardware and software compatibility. Key technical updates include:
- Vulkan Upgrades: Enhanced Vulkan support, including the addition of the
VK_EXT_shader_viewport_index_layerextension. - Backend Fixes: Resolutions for an AMD file cache bug, improved SPIR-V shader handling, and corrected Gen5 runtime paths and shader buffers.
- Graphics Corrections: General fixes for lingering shader and graphical anomalies.
The user interface has also received functional polish. Users can now easily toggle Vulkan implicit layers directly from the GUI or command line. Furthermore, the update introduces dedicated console configuration settings and language selection options, making the emulator much more accessible for general users.
