The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall Transformed Into an MMO 30 Years After Release
Three decades after Bethesda Softworks released the classic RPG The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, the game has been given new life as a massively multiplayer online experience. A modder known as Shpan has officially launched Daggerfall Enhanced, an unofficial multiplayer project that finally allows fans to explore the massive world of the Iliac Bay together.
Built on the foundation of the open-source Daggerfall Unity remake, Daggerfall Enhanced ports hundreds of the original game's quests into a cooperative setting. To make the MMO experience seamless, the mod introduces a globally synchronized day-night cycle. To accommodate players exploring at all hours of the server's time, in-game shops have also been updated to remain open 24/7.
One of the most impressive features of the project is its accessibility. The modding team has designed Daggerfall Enhanced to be playable directly through a web browser, provided users supply their own original Daggerfall game data to launch it. The multiplayer experience also introduces new visual customization, allowing players to select two distinct skins during character creation to represent their avatar both on foot and while mounted.
Players looking to team up in the classic RPG can find gameplay footage and more information on Shpan's official YouTube channel or the project's website.
