Design and Features

Like the other PRISM Trinitron televisions, the KV-13DS1 is an RF-only television. It's built in a dark graphite grey colored plastic cabinet with a unique front "multi-panel" design.

Audio

The DS model PRISM televisions feature enhanced audio features. Internally they have extra circuitry for stereo multiplexing, which for the time was considered high-end. There is also a dedicated set of buttons on the front gave the user the option to switch between multiple audio tracks from special broadcasts.

In terms of I/O, the DS models included a set of RCA audio outputs for speakers, located under the RF video input on the rear.
One of the two 3.5mm TS audio outputs on the front has been upgraded to a line-output intended for connecting the TV to a Hi-Fi setup.

Controls

On the front there are three panels covering the controls for the television.

  • Left Panel:
Features the Trinitron logo and 3 buttons: 主音声 (Main Audio), 副音声 (Secondary Audio), and 主/副 (Main/Secondary).
Flipping it up reveals picture adjustment knobs for: hue, saturation, brightness, and picture. As well as the 3 buttons and a switch labelled "オート ステレオ" (Auto Stereo)
  • Middle Panel:
Features 12 soft-push channel buttons on the surface. Removing the panel reveals VHF/UHF switches and tuning wheels for setting and fine-tuning to a channel for each button.
  • Right Panel:
Features the volume slider. Removing the panel exposes the volume slider potentiometer and a small portion of the bare PCB.

Above the panels there is a glossy black strip which includes the speaker grille, an illuminated channel number display and the power button.
