Can I judge compatibility from “PS5” or “Slim”?
No. Record the installed firmware and exact hardware configuration, then compare them with the chosen project’s requirements. A guide may rely on a particular browser, disc-based entry point, runtime, or loader. A device-family label does not establish all of those conditions. Begin with Getting Started and keep the version from Sony’s Console Information workflow in your private notes.
Does a community SDK jailbreak the console?
No. A toolchain builds software on your computer; it requires an appropriate execution environment on the console. A compiled ELF is not a firmware installer. PS5Dev/PS5SDK and ps5-payload-dev/sdk also have different build interfaces. Follow the SDK expected by your project. See Community SDKs and Development and the payload SDK’s stated scope.
Is an ELF loader the same as the initial exploit?
No. The checked ps5-payload-dev/elfldr instructions begin with an already functioning compatible exploit loader. Installing a later-stage utility cannot replace a missing first stage. When reporting a problem, specify whether the entry point opened, the exploit completed, the loader listened, and the payload ran. The original loader documentation explains its prerequisites.
Does changing DNS permanently block every update?
No. DNS controls name resolution, not every possible installation or network route. Review automatic behavior and verify the network policy after changing connection profiles. A public resolver can also stop working or change ownership. Use Networking and DNS for a preservation plan and consult the DNS protocol’s primary reference for the underlying distinction.
Can a factory reset undo a firmware update?
Do not plan on that. Sony distinguishes user-data resets from system-software installation and destructive reinstallation. This wiki does not present a supported downgrade method. A recovery screen is not evidence that an old vulnerable version can be restored. Read Recovery and Reinstallation before confirming any reset.
Does copying a game to USB copy its save?
No. Installed game data and saved progress are separate. Sony’s storage-location table distinguishes their destinations. Use the supported backup or saved-data workflow for the relevant edition, then verify the copy. If progress matters, keep a dated record rather than relying on a drive’s game thumbnails.
Does a backup restore merge old and new progress?
An official whole-console restore is destructive to current console data. Compare backup dates and protect newer progress first. Read Backups and Save Data for the version/account requirements and the differences between a USB console backup and cloud saved-data handling.
Does PS4 compatibility automatically give me the PS5 edition?
No. An eligible upgrade is a distinct title-specific offer with its own conditions. Confirm which edition is installed and whether the offer applies to your purchase. Sony’s upgrade documentation describes the distinction. Keep the PS4 edition until any publisher-specific progress transfer has been tested.
Why will a USB video not play when its extension looks right?
The internal container, video codec, audio codec, profile, and playback restrictions matter. Test a small supported file and inspect the file’s actual encoding. Renaming it does not transcode it. See Remote Play and Media and Sony’s supported media combinations.
How do I evaluate a dramatic “all firmware” claim?
Look for an original repository, a specific release, reproducible requirements, and a demonstration that matches the claimed capability. A vulnerability report, a loader build, and a complete homebrew environment prove different things. Avoid installing an unrelated executable just to “check support.” Keep questions concrete: exact console configuration, software version, project revision, failure stage, and sanitized error message. The glossary explains the terms, while Homebrew Tools links verified public projects.
