More than a decade after Konami shocked the gaming world by pulling Hideo Kojima's horror masterpiece, horror fans finally have a way to experience the original release natively on desktop hardware. An unofficial native PC port of the infamous Silent Hills P.T. demo has officially been released for download.
What Was P.T.?
Released on PlayStation 4 in August 2014, P.T. (Playable Teaser) served as an interactive teaser trailer for Silent Hills, a planned horror reboot directed by Hideo Kojima featuring actor Norman Reedus and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
The teaser trapped players inside a haunting, looping suburban hallway. With each pass through the loop, subtle environmental changes, terrifying audio cues, and intricate puzzles escalated the dread, culminating in the shocking reveal of Silent Hills. However, in April 2015, Konami canceled the project, severed ties with Kojima, and permanently removed the demo from the PlayStation Store, turning the title into digital folklore.
Beyond Fan Remakes
While the gaming community previously attempted to keep the nightmare alive through various tributes—such as Unreal Engine fan projects, a Half-Life: Alyx VR mod, and even a GZDoom demake—this new release delivers the true, decompiled experience natively to computers.
Modern PC Features & Enhancements
Unlike a standard emulation setup, this native PC port comes packed with extensive modern settings and features tailored for Windows and Linux users running through the Vulkan graphics API:
Performance & Upscaling: Full support for AMD FSR 3.1, NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, and Intel XeSS, alongside FSR Native AA, DLAA, and Frame Generation technologies.
Graphical Settings: Presets ranging from Low to Ultra, alongside custom toggles for shadow quality, ray-traced shadows, ambient occlusion, reflections, and texture quality (including AI texture upscaling via Real-ESRGAN).
Extra Modes & Tools: Includes a built-in photo mode, free camera controls, a loop browser, a museum mode, Game+ mode, and a dedicated speedrun timer compatible with LiveSplit.
Control & Mod Support: Broad multi-language support, complete keyboard/mouse and gamepad integration, mod compatibility, a third-person view option, and experimental VR support via OpenXR.
