ReSkate Mod bypasses EA's online requirements for Skate
Electronic Arts' free-to-play reboot of Skate has faced mixed reactions on Steam since its early access launch. While some elements of the game are praised, a frequent community criticism is that its online-only live-service ecosystem trades traditional skate culture for tidy maps and brand-name microtransactions, locking out classic DIY modding.
Enter ReSkate, a new fan-made modding platform created by developers zee_x64 and ReGlitched—who previously worked on custom server tools like R5Reloaded for Apex Legends. Utilizing AI coding tools to accelerate the reverse-engineering process, the developers built a tool that hooks into the Steam version of the game to strip away online-only restrictions.
Viral success and community response
The project has become an overnight phenomenon, racking up over 350,000 downloads via GitHub in just a few days.
ReSkate allows players to break out of EA's walled garden by enabling:
Offline play without requiring active server connections or EA's anti-cheat software (making it compatible with Linux via Proton).
Private custom servers hosted independently.
Custom maps and community assets, with players quickly porting classic layouts like Counter-Strike maps into the game.
Granular customization, allowing players to tweak apparel colors and material types without waiting for official cosmetic rotations.
What lies ahead
The creators maintain they have no intention of undermining Full Circle's development or distributing paid microtransactions for free, stating they built the platform "just for the love of the game." Because ReSkate is an open-source project with dozens of forks already active on GitHub, the tool's core framework would be difficult to stamp out entirely.
However, the developers acknowledge that if EA's legal team issues a cease-and-desist, they will comply without a fight. At the time of writing, EA has not issued a public statement regarding the mod.
