The development team behind the PlayStation 5 emulator SharpEmu has officially released version 0.0.5-nexus, delivering a substantial wave of performance patches for popular titles like Demon’s Souls, Astro Bot, and Grand Theft Auto V.
This update introduces significant system-level enhancements, including optimized memory handling for Linux and other POSIX systems. It also resolves core issues with pad input, CPU stack checks, and SHA instructions on unsupported hardware. Shader support has received a major overhaul, boosting speed and resolving visual glitches in games such as Little Nightmares I & III, Astro Bot, and Demon’s Souls, alongside vital fixes for Vulkan and MoltenVK implementations.
On the GPU front, the emulator now benefits from faster shader translation, enhanced stencil handling, Vulkan wave64 ballot mask fixes, and new support for HDR output. Game-specific upgrades include new AvPlayer and network stubs for Gran Turismo 7, as well as crucial Gen5 shader resource corrections for GTA V. Under the hood, SharpEmu improves its file handling capabilities, allowing the PakDirectoryTracker to properly manage identically named folders and optimizing GUI font scaling.
Notably, this release coincides with a 60 FPS patch for Bloodborne—a performance milestone that remains unavailable on the native PS5 hardware. While seeing Bloodborne run on SharpEmu is an impressive technical feat, some players may still find the ShadPS4 emulator better optimized for that specific title. Additionally, the broader emulation community continues to watch competitors like KyTyPS5, which heavily utilizes AI tools in its development cycle to accelerate its progress against SharpEmu.
