Backing up a Game also known as dumping can be useful for multiple reasons.
- Preserving your games
- running them off the system storage for fast loading times
- Running the games on an emulator
In any case the switch uses .NSP files to store games, update and DLC Packages
there are a few ways to dump your Switch games either digital or from a gamecard
in this tutorial we will use the NXdumptool
Prerequisites
- a modded Nintendo Switch running Atmosphere or other Custom Firmware
- A basic understanding of the Switch UI
- a USB Drive Over 16 GB OR SD Card Over 64 GB
- A Computer and/or Internet Connection
- 7-zip or other program that extracts .7z archives (Optional)
1. Installing NXDumptool
Via HB Appstore
- open the HBAppstore NRO from HBMenu
- Search for NXDumptool
- Click install
Via Github
- go to the releases section of the NXDumptool Repository
- Download the .nro (or .7z file if you have a file extracter)
- Transfer the Switch using one of the file transfer methods
- if you downloaded the .nro copy it to /Switch folder on your SD Card
- if you downlaoded the . 7z extract it to the root of your SD Card
2. Installing Lockpick
- Download Lockpick RCM Payload .bin from Github
- Copy it to the /Hekate/payloads Folder on the SD Card
- (Optional) Add to Favorites on TegraRCM or other Payload injector program
3. Dumping Keys
- Boot into Hekate
- Select Payloads on the Main Menu
- Choose Lockpick RCM.bin from the list
- Navigate the list that pops up using the volume up and down keys
- click Dump From SYSnand
- then reboot to hekate
4. Dumping the Games
in the HBmenu open NXDumptool
to Dump a Gamecard
Choose Gamecard options then Dump XCI
to Dump a Digital Game
Choose User Title Options and pick the game you want from the list. then dump to NSP
