The info on this article can be utilized by people looking to block Nintendo updates during periods of time when Atmosphere & Hekate haven't been updated yet, or if you want to block all Nintendo services entirely.
90DNS
With a custom DNS server, you can block all access to Nintendo services, though this also includes the eShop and Nintendo Switch Online, unless you were to self-host a custom DNS yourself made to only block the update server links (see the txt file on the dnsmitm section below to know those links).
However, since the DNS method is just accessed through the system settings, this allows it to be accessible on consoles that don't have CFW.
The following guide was sourced from GBATemp[1], with some minor formatting adjustments.
- Go to the
System Settings - Go to the
Internettab - Open
Internet Settings- If you already have a Wi-Fi network, tap on your Wi-Fi network, and pick
Change Settings - If you don't have a Wi-Fi network added, open
Manual Setupand set up your network name, SSID and Security
- If you already have a Wi-Fi network, tap on your Wi-Fi network, and pick
- Set DNS Settings to
Manual- If you live in North or South America: Set primary (IPv4) DNS to "207.246.121.77", and secondary (IPv4) DNS to "163.172.141.219".
- If you live anywhere else: Set primary (IPv4) DNS to "163.172.141.219", and secondary (IPv4) DNS to "207.246.121.77".
- Also, on Switch 2, set your IPv6 DNS servers to "::" on both primary and secondary DNS. The server does have IPv6 support (actually useful for the connection test), but it's not really worth typing in ~20 characters for the DNS part if you're not on an IPv6-only network (you almost definitely are not).
- Save the settings, and then connect to your Wi-Fi network.

- Download and install this .txt file to
atmosphere/hosts/sysmmc.txton the microSD card.- All you have to do is either right click the link the .txt file link to find the "Save Page As..." button, or open the link to the .txt file in a new tab, then press the keyboard shortcut on your browser that saves the current web page.
- The sun & autumn addresses listed in the .txt can also be manually blocked with a host blocker setup, such as Pi-Hole, but this blocking method is more for advanced users.
- Reload AMS (if you are using MTP file transfer instead of Hekate), and you should receive an error when trying to manually download aupdate from the system update button. This that system updates from Nintendo are now blocked. You still can access eShop, download game updates, and even play online (for a grace period).
- If you decide on updating later, you can either rename or delete your
sysmmc.txtfile so that updates can be downloaded with Atmosphere again. OFW can still be used to update, but it will remove AutoRCM (if it has been enabled) and burn your console fuses to the firmware you update to.
If you want to block all Nintendo services, you can use Media:Emummc.txt as an example. It should already be installed under that file name if EmuNAND was setup before, but if you want to apply its blocking to EmuNAND & SysNAND while on CFW, rename it to default.txt. This applies the same host blocking that 90DNS does.
