Starfield Mod Adds Seamless Planet Landings Without Loading Screens

Discover an upcoming Starfield mod by Frederik Wessberg Is A Nerd that introduces seamless real-time planetary landings, volumetric clouds, and updated 3D space visuals.

One of the most persistent community complaints about Starfield has been its reliance on loading screens and cutscenes for space travel and planetary approaches. While previous mods successfully tackled real-time interplanetary travel, a major new project is currently in development to address planetary entry.

Modder ‘Frederik Wessberg Is A Nerd’ has spent the last six months developing a mod that allows players to seamlessly land on any planet in the game without hitting a loading screen. A newly released showcase video highlights the impressive scope of the project, demonstrating how players can fly directly from orbit into a planet's atmosphere.

Immersive Atmospheric Entry & 3D Visual Overhauls

As you descend toward a planet's surface, the mod introduces several dynamic visual features:

  • Volumetric Clouds: Fly through genuine 3D layers of clouds that dynamically react to the game’s local weather and climate data.

  • Environmental Details: Experience storms, lightning, atmospheric glows, city lights on the dark side, and accurate cloud and land shadows.

  • Realistic Biomes & Re-Entry Effects: The mod utilizes in-game data to display correct biomes, oceans, and snow-capped peaks. During re-entry, your ship’s hull glows from atmospheric heat and collects ash.

  • Updated UI: New cockpit displays and ship HUD elements give pilots real-time telemetry during flight.

Rebuilding Space Exploration

The project was originally inspired by features like Seamless Grav Jumps, Seamless Planet Takeoffs, and Starfield’s cruise mode. However, executing seamless landings required overcoming a major hurdle: in the vanilla game, planets appear as flat 2D textures from space, which break down and lose their atmospheric fidelity when approached closely.

To fix this, the modder completely rebuilt the space-view rendering system using full 3D models. This ensures planets remain sharp and detailed at every altitude while pulling data from the game's existing mapping, weather, and atmospheric systems.

While there is currently no official release date or ETA for the mod, it stands out as one of the most ambitious community projects yet for Bethesda's sci-fi RPG.
