The 32X needs a supported Genesis or Mega Drive, its own power supply and the correct video connection between the units. A 32X cartridge and CD 32X disc have different requirements. Establish normal base-console operation before building the stack. This directory brings the existing Genesis 32X repair references together with setup, compatibility, saving and development workflows.
Source review: October 11, 2026. Guides are original source-linked writing. Original manuals may describe a specific regional model or production revision; modern project documentation may change. Match the exact board, peripheral and firmware before following a procedure.
Begin with identification and setup, then make a preservation plan. A working startup screen is only a first test: disc reading, graphics, sound, controller modes and saving each deserve a separate check. Troubleshooting guides explain how to record a reproducible symptom before choosing an internal repair.
General information and setup
- Sega 32X models, accessories and buying checklist — Evaluate a complete 32X package, supported base console, region and evidence of mixed-layer game operation before purchasing.
- Sega 32X attachment, power and video cable routing — Connect the 32X to a matched base console, route video through the expansion and verify the complete system before loading games.
Storage and software compatibility
- Sega 32X cartridge saves and backup workflow — Distinguish game-native cartridge saves, CD backup RAM and flash-cartridge files; preserve progress without assuming universal save-state support.
- Sega 32X cartridge, CD and region compatibility — Understand the required hardware for 32X cartridges and CD 32X discs, base-console timing, Master System restrictions and modern cartridge limitations.
Repairs and homebrew
- Sega 32X missing graphics, crashes and repair triage — Diagnose the base console, inter-unit video link, cartridge contacts and revision-specific 32X faults using repeatable tests.
- Sega 32X homebrew tools and hardware testing — Build original 32X software with Marsdev and official hardware references; test ROMs, graphics layers, reset behavior and save requirements on documented configurations.

Use legally obtained software and BIOS files with tools that require them. A flash cartridge or emulator's feature list does not establish support for every add-on combination. Board-specific soldering, power wiring, storage conversions and optical adjustments require documentation that matches the actual hardware.
