The BD-J exploit requires a Blu-ray disc burned with the exploit ISO, and a PS4 with 13.00 or lower firmware.

To burn a Blu-ray disc, you require a disc drive capable of doing so. If you do not have one, you will have to buy a pre-burned disc.

Instructions

Unpatching BD-JB for 13.00 and newer with BD-JB-EX

If you have 13.00 firmware, the existing BD-JB discs will not function properly on your PS4. However, it is possible to re-enable support for existing 9.00-12.52 BD-JB discs (such as Henloader 1.0) if you utilize an alternative jailbreak method to copy a custom 00000.jar file to your PS4's hard drive.[1]

This would theoretically work from 13.02 up to 13.52 as well, but BD-JB itself does not support these firmwares since the kernel exploit compatible with these firmwares would need to be ported to BD-JB.

Note that this will be reset if the PS4 has been factory reset or has had the firmware reinstalled afterward, meaning this series of steps would need to be performed again to regain BD-JB support.

  1. Use one of the other exploit methods mentioned in Getting Started in order to boot GoldHEN.
  2. Enable GoldHEN's FTP server if it isn't enabled already.
  3. Acess the FTP server with your preferred client. Many are mentioned on the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) page. You will need one that's able to send arbitary commands.
  4. On your FTP client, execute the command mtrw in order to enable writing to system directories on the PS4.
  5. Download and extract one of the following zip files to your computer, and copy the 00000.jar file to /system_ex/app/NPXS20113/bdjstack/lib/ext on the PS4.
  6. Reboot the console. You can now proceed to burn/use your BD-JB disc by following one of the applicable guides below.

Henloader (9.00-12.52)

Henloader is a newer AIO BD-JB implementation that also includes a few Blu-Play games. Fixes for black screen and corrupted save data are included in the ISO. Do not use any other AIO related fix or plugins with this.

  1. Download the latest Exploit ISO.
  2. Burn the ISO to a Blu-ray disc by using ImgBurn or PowerISO.
    • If you are using BD-RE, make sure the settings for permanent write are disabled.
  3. Insert the disc into the console and open the Blu-ray Player from the home screen. If the BD LIVE features prompt is shown, select YES.
  4. The Henloader menu will now be visible. Press the corresponding button to load the kernel exploit method compatible with your firmware.
    • If your firmware is 12.02 or older, press Cross to load Lapse.
    • If your firmware is 12.50 or 12.52, the Lapse option will be disabled due to it being patched, so press Circle to load the Poops exploit.

For recommendations on what to do next, like blocking game and firmware updates, see Recommended Setup.

Lapse.iso (9.00-12.02)

This is the original BD-JB2 implementation by Gezine. It's quite bare-bones, but will automatically start the Lapse exploit as soon as you launch the disc app on the console. As of Lapse.iso 1.2, the fixes for black screen and corrupted save data are included in the ISO.

  3. Format a USB drive to exFAT or FAT32.
  4. Download HEN or GoldHEN, and put it on the root of the USB drive named as payload.bin.
  5. Plug in the USB with HEN or GoldHEN into your PS4.
    • The USB drive will be needed only once, after that the payload will be copied to the HDD and loaded from there in the future
  6. Insert the disc into the console and open the Blu-ray Player from the home screen. On the BD LIVE features prompt, select YES.
  7. The payload will load and you can close the Blu-ray player.
    • You will not need the USB drive again after the initial successful run.

For recommendations on what to do next, like blocking game and firmware updates, see Recommended Setup.

Black screen and corrupted save data

The AIO fixes are for resolving black screen and save data corruption issues in certain games. This is only needed for 1.00, 1.1 and 1.1b, as of 1.2 the fixes are included in the ISO. Do not use any other AIO related fix or plugins with this.

  1. Load payload.bin (GoldHEN or ps4-hen) normally from USB.
  2. Send "aiofix_network.elf" to the BinLoader using netcat or payload sender.
  3. You will get AIO patch completed notification.
  4. You need to send this elf file every time you run Lapse exploit.

Alternatively, if you want to attempt a 1 time fix (may not work case by case):

  1. Download "aiofix_USBpayload.elf" place it on a USB drive and name it "payload.bin".
  2. Place HEN or GoldHEN (or your desired post exploit payload) on the USB drive and name it "payload2.bin".
  3. Plug in the USB into your PS4 and run the exploit.
    • You will not need the USB drive again after the initial successful run. In short, put payload.bin (aiofix) and payload2.bin (HEN/GoldHEN) at USB.

Troubleshooting BD-J

Exploit failed to run

If the exploit fails, reboot the console.

Error "NW-31201-7"

  1. Go to [Settings] -> [System] -> [Automatic Downloads] -> Uncheck [Allow Restart] and [System Software Update Files].
  2. After that go to [Settings] -> [Network] -> [Set up Internet Connection] and set it up using the Easy setup.
  3. Go to [Settings] -> [System] -> [Enable HDCP] and enable it

Disc can't be read

If your disc cannot be read, you may not have burned it correctly or do not have a compatible disc.

Reminder: Blu-ray recordable discs (BD-R & BD-RE) are the only supported format for BD-J.
