This page will guide you through enabling homebrew with Lua Loader and Lapse.
Requirements
There are conditions that need to be met to be able to use the jailbreak.
- Please ensure you have access to at least 1 of the games used for the Lua exploit. The list can be found here. The game has to be able to launch; if you do not have one or it cannot launch, you cannot proceed. You will require a Lua Game Disc or Demo. The game demo could only have been acquired when your firmware was the latest firmware and you could connect to PSN. The disc version will need to be purchased if you do not have the demo.
- You will need an activated user account. This can be a PSN account or a fake activated account. If you are on 9.00-12.02, you will have to initially download a console backup and restore it to gain access to the save file. Please make sure to fake activate an account with Apollo Save Tool after the initial jailbreak.
- A way to import a Lua exploit save file. This can be done by:
- Downloading a console backup and restoring it.
- Resigning a save file to the currently activated account by using:
- Another jailbroken console and Apollo Save Tool
- A Discord Bot
- Save Wizard
Note that restoring a console backup wipes all other data from the console.
Obtaining Lua Game FAQ/Q&A
For game demos:
- No, you cannot download a demo on a different console and transfer it with an external drive.
- No, you cannot take someone's console backup that has the game demo and have it work.
- No, you cannot use IDU or anything else to install the demo and have it work.
- No, you cannot download the demo if you aren't on the latest firmware.
- No, you cannot get the demo at all if you already don't have it while keeping your current firmware.
In conclusion, you're going to have to buy the game disc if you don't have the demo or wait for a WebKit exploit (ETA unknown).
- See the reverting guide on how to get a demo via soldering and reverting
Activating User Account
If you have a real PSN account on the console or have created one via Apollo Save Tool, you can skip this step and go to Importing Lua Save Game. If not, continue.
Activating an Account with Apollo Save Tool (Jailbroken)
If you have access to alternative jailbreak methods, you can jailbreak the PS4 by using one of the other methods listed in the Getting Started page, then fake activate your account by following the guide on the Apollo Save Tool Guide.
Activating an Account with a System Backup (Universal)
This involves downloading a console backup file, which will give you an activated user account. This will wipe your console but keep it on the same firmware.
If the console backup you get does not come with the needed save file, you have to create one to export it and add the exploit files. The exploited saves can be imported by resigning them to the currently activated account by using the following:
- Another jailbroken console with Apollo Save Tool.
- A Discord Bot.
- Save Wizard.
See "Activating an Account with Premade Saves from a System Backup" for a system backup with already set up saves.
Importing Lua Save Game
If you downloaded a console backup and it does not have the needed save file, or you are on a jailbroken console, follow along.
Activating an Account with Premade Saves from a System Backup (Universal)
Notice: This will erase all data on your console. Notice: This option is only for if you have the disc of the game.
- You will restore a system backup that already has the auto load saves set up. This means that if you have the disc, you just put it in and plug in a USB with HEN or GoldHEN and launch the game; the jailbreak will run automatically.
- Download the system backup and extract the PS4 folder to a USB formatted in exFAT or FAT32.
- Go to Settings>Backup and Restore>Restore PS4 and select the restore data.
- Backup with saves that auto-load the jailbreak: https://www.mediafire.com/file/jb3owviyfsnbqf0/Auto+Load.zip/file
- See "Auto Loading the Jailbreak" section.
- Backup that requires you to manually run payloads: https://www.mediafire.com/file/a013tqk4fw4hwvs/Manual+Load.zip/file
- See "Setting up Exploit Server on PC" to "Running the Jailbreak".
Importing the save with Apollo Save Tool (Jailbroken)
- First, jailbreak the console with one of the other methods in Getting Started so that you can add the exploit files to a save.
- Download and unpack the files in the Lua Loader repo or the automated loader
- If using the automated one, see "Auto Loading the Jailbreak"
- Play the game for a while until you can create save data.
- Connect a USB drive to the PS4.
- Use Apollo Save Tool to export decrypted save data to a USB drive by using the "Copy save game to USB" option.
- Go to (x:\PS4\APOLLO\id_{YOUR_GAME_CUSA_ID}_savedata) and delete all files except the "sce_sys" folder.
- Copy and paste all files from savedata where the "sce_sys" folder is not inside it.
- Use Apollo Save Tool to import the new save data from the USB drive with "Copy save game to HDD".
Importing the save file with Application Saved Data Management (Universal)
Skip if you already have the save data via a console restore. (Requires an activated account)
- Download and unpack the files in the Lua Loader repo or the automated loader
- If using the automated one, see "Auto Loading the Jailbreak"
- Play the game for a while until you can create save data.
- Connect a USB drive to the PS4.
- Export the saved data to a USB by using the
Application Saved Data Managementfeature. Take note of your AccountID in the PS4/SAVEDATA/AccountIDpath. - Use Apollo Save Tool, Save Wizard, Garlic Saves, or a Discord bot to decrypt the save.
- If using Apollo Save Tool, choose "Copy save data to USB drive".
- Go to (x:\PS4\APOLLO\id_{YOUR_GAME_CUSA_ID}_savedata) or whatever you get from SW/Discord and delete all files except the "sce_sys" folder.
- Copy and paste all files from the Lua Loader savedata folder where the "sce_sys" folder is not inside it.
- Use Apollo Save Tool to import the new save data from the USB drive with "Copy save game to HDD" or if using Save Wizard or a Discord bot, import it the same way you exported it.
- Run the game and check if there is a popup from lua loader.
Setting up Exploit Server on PC
- Download and install Python 3.12 or above
- On Windows, make sure to run the installer as admin and add it to the path in the installer options.
- Download and unpack the files in the Lua Loader repo
Setting up the Network Connection
Connect your PS4 and PC to the same network.
| For some people, their Internet Provider will block DNS’s, thus not allowing you to use the DNS. In this case you can skip the DNS and see: PS4:Blocking OFW Updates after jailbreaking. |
- On your PS4
- Navigate to Settings > Network > Check Connect to the Internet, then
Set Up Internet Connectionand: - Connection: Wi-Fi or LAN cable
- Set Up: Custom
- IP Address: Automatic
- DHCP Host Name: Do Not Specify
- DNS Settings: Manual
- Primary DNS: 62.210.38.117 (leave the secondary blank as it is)
- MTU Settings: Automatic
- Proxy Server: Do Not Use
- Test the internet connection. Then go to "View Connection Status" and take note of your PS4's IP.
Running the Jailbreak
- Open the game; the Lua Loader will launch.
- Back to the files from the Lua Loader repo, open the payloads folder, and type in
cmdin the address bar (not the search bar). - Insert your PS4's IP in the following command
python send_lua.py <IP> 9026 lapse.luaand run it. If the exploit fails, run it again.- For example, if the IP address of your PlayStation is 192.168.0.69, your command will be:
python send_lua.py 192.168.0.69 9026 lapse.lua
- For example, if the IP address of your PlayStation is 192.168.0.69, your command will be:
- Once Lapse is successful, insert your PS4's IP in the following command:
python send_lua.py <IP> 9026 bin_loader.luaYou should get a popup that the binloader is listening.- For example, if the IP address of your PlayStation is 192.168.0.69, your command will be: `
python send_lua.py 192.168.0.69 9026 bin_loader.lua
- For example, if the IP address of your PlayStation is 192.168.0.69, your command will be: `
- Download the payload loader.
- HEN and GoldHEN are supplied in the system backup. You can download the latest HEN here.
- Open the payload loader, set the port to 9020, then set the IP to that of your PS4, select the HEN/GoldHEN file for your firmware, and press send.
- The payload will load, and you can close the game.
- For recommendations on what to do next, see Recommended Setup.
Auto-Loading the Jailbreak
If you have restored the system backup linked above or have built the save file with the automated Lua Loader.
- Put your disc into the console and allow the game to install.
- Put GoldHEN or HEN found in the system restore zip in the root of your USB drive named as "payload.bin" and plug it into the PS4.
- Note: The USB drive will be needed only once; after that, the payload will be copied to the HDD and loaded from there in the future.
- Launch the game once it is installed; the jailbreak will run automatically.
- If the jailbreak fails, you will be prompted to reboot the console; do so and retry.
For recommendations on what to do next, see Recommended Setup.
