Netcat

The nc (or netcat) utility is used for just about anything under the sun involving TCP or UDP^[1]. It can open TCP connections, send UDP packets, listen on arbitrary TCP and UDP ports, do port scanning, and deal with both IPv4 and IPv6. Unlike telnet^[2], nc scripts nicely separate error messages onto standard error instead of sending them to standard output, as telnet(1) does with some.

For the PS4, it can be used to send payloads (-.bin or -.elf files) from a PC to the PS4 remotely.

Terminal/CMD Usage

On your PS4, jailbreak it using GoldHEN, and either enable the BinLoader feature in GoldHEN or run the Bin Loader payload from exploit hosts.

GNU/BSD Netcat

• Open the terminal on your macOS/Linux machine and type the following command:
  • nc -w 3 (PS4's IP address) 9090 < payload.bin
  • If you have Windows, you'll want to use an alternative method, such as Nmap, or one of the GUI apps.

Nmap

Nmap is a newer alternative to netcat, which is essentially an optimized rewrite of the latter. It's also easily usable as a cross-platform application, unlike netcat.

• First, install Nmap with the corresponding method for your operating system. You can view Nmap's official documentation on downloading & installing it here. Alternatively, you can install it in the terminal with a package manager.
  • Windows (winget): winget install -e --id Insecure.Nmap
  • macOS (brew): brew install nmap
  • macOS (MacPorts): sudo port install nmap
  • Most Linux Distributions (dnf, apt, zypper, etc.): sudo (dnf/apt/zypper) install nmap
  • Arch-based Linux Distributions (pacman): sudo pacman -S nmap
• Afterward, enter the following command to send the desired payload to your PS4. The syntax is essentially the same as netcat.
  • nmap -w 3 (PS4's IP address) 9090 < payload.bin

NetcatGUI Usage

NetcatGUI (source) is a simple GUI program that is set to emulate the popular "Swiss army knife" network tool called netcat (nc) using an easy-to-use graphical user interface and cross-platform mentality. There are easy keyboard shortcuts for almost every operation of NetcatGUI to achieve maximum efficiency.

1. On your PS4, jailbreak it using GoldHEN, and either enable the BinLoader feature in GoldHEN or run the Bin Loader payload from exploit hosts.
2. Open NetcatGUI on your PC.
3. Insert your PS4's IP address and the port number (the port number is usually shown when a binloader on the PS4 is activated)
4. Select your payload (must be a .bin format).
5. Select Inject Payload to send the payload to the PS4.
