This page will walk you through enabling homebrew on 9.00–12.02 firmwares using the Netflix application.
If you're on a firmware higher than 12.02, you will need to go back to the Getting Started page and use an exploit compatible with your firmware.
There are conditions that need to be met to be able to use the jailbreak. This exploit works by intercepting Netflix's requests to localhost using a MITM attack to inject custom JavaScript.
Requirements
- You must have a Netflix license. You may have a license if:
- You have previously installed Netflix but deleted it.
- You currently have the retail application installed and can run it without jailbreaking. (Not the one from homebrew store/pkg zone)
- You have a real PSN account activated as primary.
- Hardware: 256 GB or larger (up to 8 TB) USB drive/external HDD/external SSD (USB 3.0 required).
- A PS4 on any firmware between 9.00–12.02
Obtaining the Netflix application
You need to have been on the latest firmware and downloaded Netflix from PSN.
- If you don't have the license, the only way is by updating to the latest firmware, downloading Netflix from PSN, and reverting to the previous firmware.
- Note that you need to be able to revert to a supported firmware (9.00–12.02). Firmware Revert
- If you don't know if you have the license, you can try flashing the extended storage image for your region and testing to see if the Netflix app works. If it stays locked, you do not have a license and cannot use this exploit.
- Tip: If your console has a higher version than the vulnerable 1.53 version, delete it and copy it from the extended storage to the console; it will provide the 1.53 version.
Extended Storage Drive Setup
- Download balenaEtcher
- Download the Image Archive for your console and region from the Releases section
- For PS4: Netflix_PS4_xx.7z (US/EU/JP).
- Extract the .7z file to find the .zip image inside.
- Download the Image Archive for your console and region from the Releases section
- Write the image with balenaEtcher:
- Connect your Drive to your computer.
- Open balenaEtcher and click “Flash from file” to select the .zip image.
- Click “Select target” and choose your Drive.
- Click “Flash!” to start.
| Etcher may appear stuck at 0% or 99%. This is normal; let it finish. |
Moving the Netflix App to Internal Storage
- On your PS4: Go to Settings -> Storage -> Extended Storage -> Applications -> [Options] -> Move To System Storage.
- Select Netflix and confirm the move to internal storage.
- Internet & Proxy Setup.
Internet settings for Netflix 'N Hack
To trigger the exploit, you must point your console to a proxy server that injects the code.
On your PS4:
- Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Choose Set Up Manually and select your Wi-Fi or LAN.
- Proceed to Proxy Server and select Use.
- Enter the following details (for the public hosted proxy):
- Address: 172.105.156.37
- Port: 42069
- If you wish to host the proxy locally, Follow this guide
- Save and connect. (You may see "Can't connect to the internet", this is normal and expected).
Running the exploit
Simply launch the Netflix application.
- Wait for the application to load. If it crashes, simply reopen it
- If you see green text or an "Exception" error, press X or O to retry.
- Once elfldr is listening on port 9021, you can send your ELF payloads
- If Lapse fails, you must reboot the console to try again.
