Remote Play is a feature of Sony video game consoles that allows the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 to transmit video and audio output to another device; previously this could only be a PlayStation Portable or PlayStation Vita. In 2014, it was expanded to include the use of PlayStation TV, Xperia smartphones, tablets (Z2 and later), and PlayStation Now. In 2016, it was expanded to Microsoft Windows PCs and macOS. In 2019, support for Android and iOS devices was eventually added. Support for remote play of PlayStation 5 games to other devices was added in November 2020, just before the new console's launch.

PC-PS4 Remote Play

Using the official Remote Play client

Note that you will need a PSN account (can be a dummy one and never connected/linked to the PS4) to sign in to the app.

  1. Download and install the PS Remote Play application for your device from the website.
    • Alternatively, PS Remote Play can also be installed with the following package managers in the Windows or macOS terminals:
      • Windows: winget settings --enable InstallerHashOverride && winget install PlayStation.PSRemotePlay --ignore-security-hash (This requires you to launch the Command Prompt or Terminal as administrator)
      • macOS: brew install --cask sony-ps-remote-play
  2. Install the client. If you get a "Media Pack" error, navigate to Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Optional features and remove and reinstall Windows Media Player.
  3. After jailbreaking your PS4 using GoldHEN, navigate to Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings > Enable Remote Play and Remote Play using PSVita/PSTV.
  4. Select Add Device and take note of the code.
  5. Back to the device, open the Remote Play application, connect to the PS4, and sign in to your chosen PSN account.
  6. Select Register Manually and enter the code.

Using chiaki-ng (Homebrew Remote Play client)

  1. Download and install Chiaki with one of the following methods, depending on your device.
    • If you're on Windows, you can either use Winget or Chocolatey to install it from the command line with the following commands.
      • winget install --id=StreetPea.chiaki-ng -e
      • choco install chiaki-ng
    • If you're on macOS, you can use Homebrew to install it from the terminal with the following command:
      • brew install --cask streetpea/streetpea/chiaki-ng
    • If you're on a Linux distribution, you can download and install Chiaki with Flathub.
    • If you're on Android, it can be downloaded from F-Droid.
    • If you have a modded Nintendo Switch, you can use Akira, which is a fork of Chiaki-ng.
    • You can also manually install Chiaki-ng binaries from the GitHub releases.
      • For Linux, the AppImage file is the binary you need to use if you don't want to use Flathub.
  2. Open Chiaki and select the + icon.
  3. For host input, enter your PS4's IP address. To find out your PS4's IP address, navigate to Settings > Network > View Connection Status.
  4. Save and double-click the new "appear" icon.
  5. Input your console firmware.
  6. Input your PSN account ID.
    • For local accounts, and if you used GoldHEN, you can input fffffffffff= (that's 11 f's and a = sign).
    • For activated accounts, you need the account ID in Base64 format; you can convert it using a HEX to Base64 online converter.
      • If it's a real PSN account, and you don't have access to a jailbreak, you can easily get the PSN ID with this website. Simply type your PSN ID into the website, and copy and paste the encoded ID into Chiaki.
      • If it's an account activated with Apollo Save Tool, simply go into Apollo again to check what the account's ID is. This method is also useful if your PS4 has a real account but also can jailbreak. Since Apollo will display the ID as hexadecimal, you can use this website to convert it to a Base64 value that's compatible with Chiaki.
  7. After jailbreaking your PS4 using GoldHEN, navigate to Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings > Enable Remote Play and Remote Play using PSVita/PSTV.
  8. Select Add Device and input the code in the PIN section of chiaki.
  9. Select Register.

PSVita-PS4 Remote Play

PS Vita can connect (LAN only) to a hacked PS4 without the need for any additional tweaks (can be a regular or hacked Vita).

Simply jailbreak your PS4 using GoldHEN. After jailbreaking your PS4 using GoldHEN, navigate to Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings > Enable Remote Play and Remote Play using PSVita/PSTV, select Add Device, and input the code in Vita's native Remote Play app (comes with Vita). Do not wait for auto-pair; select skip and input the code.

Troubleshooting

  • If you have choppy audio when using Chiaki, go into Chiaki's folder > Audio and remove qtaudio_windows.dll if you're using Windows 10 or qtaudio_wasapi.dll if you're using Windows 7.
  • If you have low FPS and/or connection issues using Chiaki, this indicates your connection is not strong enough.
